I really love photography. Nothing inspires me as much as looking through someone’s gallery of amazing photos. Regretfully, between school and work, I haven’t had as much time to shoot as I’d like. And to be honest, I’m a bit short on things to shoot.
Anyways, this friday I went down to the LA zoo with my friend Karo - it’s just a few minutes away from where I live so it’s pretty convenient.
As we walked in, we saw a little (well, it was quite big actually) peacock walking around. We tried to scare it to make it open its wings, and even pretended to be female peacocks, but it didn’t work - and I didn’t want it to peck my lens out (I had a bad experience with a peacock at a park in India when I was 4 or 5).

It seemed like he escaped or something, but we told someone and they said it was fine. I guess they ran out of money for cages. But I won’t complain - it was cool to be able to walk up to it and shoot.

Then we went to see a little bird show. It was cool, though getting them in flight was pretty tough. I missed a few shots because my CF card (Ultra II) was still writing - definitely want to get a faster one sometime soon (Extreme IV).

I took my tripod but half of it was handheld and half was on - I still don’t remember which one was better. I also kept taking my 1.4x teleconverter on and off - autofocus was too slow with it on, but I liked the extra reach.

Fun but challenging! I want to go there again sometime, just to reshoot the flying birds.

There’s a teacher at my school who just absolutely loves giraffes…

The tigers were asleep and boring (3rd time! Every time I go to the zoo they’re zzzzz) - but the lions are always good sports.

Not sure if this is very hygenic but:

And some flamingos.

This ones shy:

And this one just looks sinister…

I cant wait until things warm up here in Southern Illinois so I can get out with my camera. As I type this it is 18 outside. Wonderful photos!

Check out my seal picture, it is the only shot of a seal in the actual flickr set.

Great pics!
Even if I had a zoo around here, it’d be impossible for me to shoot such pictures (with my Canon digital Ixus 50 — point-and-shoot camera). Maybe I’ll have to get myself a better equipment some time soon.
Those were all the comments. But don't be shy — Add your own!
