Take me to Clovertown!

Or: Why I can’t wait to get a Mac Pro!

Though Photoshop CS3 Beta totally rocks CS2, both in UI and performance, I still get the occasional slowdown (Macbook Pro Gen1), especially when doing other things (Adium, Pages, iTunes, Camino) and PSD’s with over 1000 layers. Two gigs of RAM just don’t cut it anymore.

I’ve also been juggling my last one or two gigs of hard drive space, which are needed by Photoshop as scratch space. So whenever I need to put something new, I have to delete something else or move it over to the external.

And since most of my work is done at the desk and not on the go, I think it’s time to get a Mac Pro.

Now, we Wait

The lovely Mac Pros are approaching the end of a product cycle, with 195 days or so since an update (the average is 206). There is also said to be a special event very soon (Feb 20) when Apple will release Leopard, iLife/iWork 07, and new mac pros!

So Apple is almost definitely about to release new ones.

There are many rumors and ideas but I think that the new Mac Pros will use the new Clovertown quad-core processors. Whether I’ll actually want that or some more faster dual core processors, I don’t know. Just because the stuff I do probably requires more muscle rather than running 4 or 5 intense things at the same time.

Anyways, I’m anxiously awaiting the new releases!

UPDATE:
Seems like there is no “Feb 20 launch.” Boo rumors!
But still, based on all the evidence, they’re going to release sometime soon. It’s just a question of when.
