Been looking around more for the Mac Pro specs and I’ve changed my mind a little bit.
Dual Quad Core (still)
1GB stock Ram — Upgraded to 1 or 2 of these at 630 each. That’s about 1200 for 8GB (4×2) vs Apple’s 1900+ for the same. And about the same price as upgrading to their 4GB plan, but this way you get 2GB sticks rather than 1, which are worth more since you can potentially max the system.

8gb? why?

Possibly. I’m not sure but 1gb for each core is pretty good. GB should be enough for most of the time, but I think once I start pushing it and taking advantage of the 8 cores, the lack of RAM buffer would become the bottleneck.
I’m thinking 4GB should suffice to start off, and then I can up to 8 if need be. 2GB is vastly not enough. 4And then 12/16 if I ever lose my mind and/or get into video.

Yeah 2gb is just not enough in my macbook pro. I run at about 75% during normal activities, let alone running CS2 or Lightroom. (Speaking of lightroom, I broke my highest temperature record with it today. 176 degrees Fahrenheit…)
Honestly, I can’t justify spending that much money on a Mac Pro. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love my mac, but I could build a system with dual quad core processors and a Tyan motherboard for what you’d end up paying for that thing. I mean, you can run OSx86 on one if you have to, but that’s the downside to building one I guess…
Then again, I looked at doing that before I got my macbook pro, but I ended up with the macbook pro. :)

Yeah. A few years ago I wouldn’t have done it (well, I didn’t).
Id have probably gotten an evaporator or water cooling system. But I guess youre paying a premium for the convenience, brand, OS, chassis (the Lian Li or Antec stuff is cool but not THAT great, I think). I toyed with the idea of building my own but I think this is a good solution, if not a great value.

Wow, these specs look really, really awesome first of all!
Well, I imagine you’re going to do some 3D-stuff with that, right? I’m just blown away by a dual-quad-core mac with 4gb of ram. I couldn’t exhaust a system like this even if I wanted to, I think. ;D
Anyway, good luck with the PC. I’m interested in how much this will cost you, though. So keep us updated, please!
